Warren Man Faces Animal Trafficking and Cruelty Charges | News, Sports, Jobs
WARREN – A 22-year-old Maple Street SW resident is being held without bail after pleading not guilty on Tuesday to several counts, including animal cruelty, car theft, driving a vehicle in intoxicated, out of control of a vehicle, hit-skip and driving under suspension.
Tyler J. Kelly, 696 Maple St. SW, is scheduled to appear Feb. 4 in a preliminary hearing before Municipal Court Judge Terry Ivanchak.
Kelly’s mother, Rose Hamilton, described her son kicking their dog because he chewed on Kelly’s $ 125 charger, according to a police report. Although Hamilton said she would get Kelly a new charger, he started yelling obscenities at her, ran into Hamilton’s room, and grabbed his car keys so he could leave.
He got into his blue 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt, backed up from the driveway and drove west on Maple Street, according to the report. Kelly lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole, causing severe damage to the front. He left.
Later, as officers searched for the vehicle, a man was seen walking in the parking lot of Jefferson K-8 School. However, the officer was called in for an unrelated accident.
After the agent returned to the Maple Street house, it was learned that Kelly was already there and was being questioned. He was wearing the same pink jacket seen at school.
He smelled strongly of alcohol on his breath, the report said.
During the interview, Kelly noted that he had injured his shoulder when he hit the utility pole, according to the police report. An ambulance was called and he was taken to St. Joseph Warren Hospital for treatment.
He declined to tell officers where he left the vehicle, saying only that it was somewhere in Palmyra Heights, according to the report. Following his footprints in the snow, the cobalt was found outside of 2057 Deerfield St.
Kelly, who had been described as aggressive during her treatment at the hospital, was taken to Trumbull County Jail, according to the police report. During her treatment at the hospital, Kelly admitted to drinking alcohol before her arrest, according to the report.
He refused to take an OVI test.
