Toms River officials this week voted to allocate funds to build a dog park in the city.

At a Parish Council meeting Wednesday night, the governing body voted unanimously to award Cookstown-based Vulcan Construction Group a $240,235 contract to build a dog park at the existing Silverton Park.

Silverton Park is located on Maine Street in the Silverton neighborhood. The dog park is expected to be built at the back of the property and will feature a range of pet amenities as well as fencing. The bid submitted by Vulcan includes the clearance and preparation of the existing site, the installation of six vinyl fences ranging in height from 4ft to 10ft with concrete foundations, a weed barrier, improvements to the parking lot and the addition of several disabled parking spots. signage.

Park amenities include decorative 6-foot benches anchored in concrete, a walkway, animal waste station with concrete foundation, natural berms, and decorative garbage and recycling bins. The park will also be redesigned.

Mayor Maurice “Mo” Hill said he expects work to begin shortly and construction to take a minimum of time, although no official construction start date has been set as the contract has just been awarded.
