Over the past 18 months, many of us have welcomed a new four-legged friend to our homes as the Kennel Club has seen the number of dog owners increase by almost 8% from 2020.
But with 221 different purebred dog breeds to choose from, there is a lot of thought to be done before selecting your perfect puppy.
If you are looking for a dog that will follow orders and not run wild, there is some scientific research on the subject that can guide you.
Psychologist Stanley Coren’s book “The Intelligence of Dogs” is a centerpiece of dog literature, judging the relative IQ of breeds – including examining their obedience.
They are therefore – officially – the top 10 most obedient dogs.

The best dog when it comes to obedience is the lively Border Collie. However, they do need a lot of exercise and therefore are not the perfect pet for everyone.
