Kate and Toby’s split is ‘heated up’

Don’t put the tissues away just yet. Chrissie Metz warned Us weekly that Kate and Toby still have some heartbreaking moments ahead of them This is us season 6

Metz, 41, spoke exclusively US at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party about the couple’s inevitable split. Although the March 22nd episode of This is us showed Kate (Metz) and Toby (Chris Sullivan) to admit their marriage isn’t working out, they’re not ready to sign the divorce papers just yet.

“I think they’ll keep trying … but obviously we know they don’t end up together because she remarried,” Metz said US on Sunday March 27th at the star-studded fundraiser co-hosted by Lady Gaga, Billy Porter, Eric McCormack and David Furnish.

The turning point for the fan favorite This is us The couple arrived when Kate was visiting Toby in San Francisco and one of his colleagues mentioned the company was thrilled that he had turned down a job offer in Los Angeles. Kate was furious that her husband didn’t even mention the opportunity to her, and he claimed the salary was too low to seriously consider. However, he refused to tell Kate exactly how much money was being offered.

While Toby insisted he had to generate a huge income to support their son Jack and spend to give a blind child every opportunity available, he also accused Kate of enjoying her life as a single mother. Instead of being happy about moving into a house and reuniting her family, she refused to give up her independence and her new job as a music teacher.

“I think it’s just a very real representation of a relationship, people growing apart instead of growing together, but it’s going to be fine. It’s going to be hot,” added Metz.

Though Kate is going through the wringer, Metz is walking on sunshine as she wraps up a successful six-season run of the NBC series, which concludes in May. “It’s incredible,” she said US on Sunday while reflecting on her rise to fame after booking the series with just 81 cents in her bank account. “You live in great gratitude, and I think the more grateful you are, the more you get. So it’s like, you just have to stay grateful.”

She’s also grateful for her close bond with her co-stars, including Mandy Moore and Susan Kelechi Watson. Metz added that she expects to keep in touch with the cast after the finale airs in May. “I think true friendships last,” she said.

Earlier this month, the Florida native opened up US exclusively what she will miss most from playing the character she loves.

“What I will miss most about Kate is thinking that so many people, not even just women, relate to her and that she is going through her trials and tribulations imperfectly and all the shame and guilt that she is so worn for a long time,” she revealed to Time. “It’s really like a torch that she carries and I think that’s very special to meet people that I’ve never met before and to be able to cry with them in the bathroom about what.” they go through.”

This is us Season 6 airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
