Jiberish X Smartwool Team Up For Long-Lasting Snowsports Collaboration

Two brands of winter sports clothing, Jiberish and Smartwool have joined forces to create a remarkable collaboration. The two local companies wanted to stay true to their brands while coming together to create more sustainable pieces that feature plant-based dyes for tie-dye streetwear style clothing.

The Smartwool brand is known for its influence through nature, hence its very intricate designs and color palette. Smartwool was established in Steamboat Springs, Colorado in 1994. Today, the company is currently based in Denver. Founders Peter and Patty Duke are avid skiers. They wanted to ski longer without getting frozen toes.

This is where the idea of creating socks was born whose main source of fabric is merino wool. “It’s incredibly soft, moisture-wicking, thermoregulating, long-lasting, and odor-neutralizing.” Excellent for enjoying the outdoors as long and comfortably as possible,” Kris Fry, said the creative director of Smartwool. Smartwool primarily creates merino wool products, from socks to base layers.

Smartwool recently introduced the use of “plant-based dyes” in a few styles of merino wool clothing. “[It is] an eco-friendly and responsible process that uses plant-derived dyes instead of artificial substances, using less water and energy in the process,” Fry said.

Smartwool’s main mission is “performance innovation”. What really sets the brand apart is that they draw inspiration from nature in all of their prints while using many colors and patterns to create their take on nature.

“The fundamental purpose of our brand is our belief that the outdoors belongs to no one – and to everyone. Smartwool exists to bring comfort, confidence and community to a life lived outdoors. Whether you’re an adventurer, athlete, or commuting to work, our brand helps you get the most out of your outdoor experiences,” said Fry.

Within the Smartwool community, a core belief is that time spent outdoors is “precious, restorative and essential for everyone,” Fry said. The brand always keeps its customers and friends informed of the direction they are taking. They prioritize the relationships and trust they have with their customers.

Smartwool believes in doing everything in its power to help the environment. That’s why they use natural materials in their products while partnering with organizations that protect nature.

Smartwool has a very bright future ahead of them. By 2030, their goal is to become 100% circular and climate positive and the brand is constantly finding ways to prioritize innovation and create more sustainable clothing.

Recently, Smartwool launched a product called the Second Cut K9 Camp Pad, launched as part of its Second Cut project. The product is a dog bed made entirely of recycled socks, “which reduces the impact of textile waste on the environment and reflects the values of our fun-loving brand. We have partnered with the circularity platform Material Return to create the Second Cut K9 Camp Cushion, demonstrating our commitment to local and innovative solutions to industrial waste,” said Fry.

Jiberish was founded in 2005 and is based in Denver, Colorado. Jiberish clothing is heavily influenced by the outdoors and nature. They are known for their streetwear style which reflects high quality clothing. The brand focuses on three aspects of life: city life, mountain life and snow sports.

Jiberish designs are quirky, colorful and bold, but they never shy away from quality. Jiberish garments are made from custom milled organic cotton, which is a heavyweight, high quality fabric. In some individual pieces, Jiberish also uses extra-long staple cotton which gives their garments a softer, silkier feel.

Jiberish prides himself on his social media page, which not only features his apparel, but also pro-level winter sports reels and videos.

Jiberish and Smartwool are two well-known winter sports brands. They each bring something different to the table, but with one goal in mind: “We hope this collaboration will show the next generation of skiers that there is no need to sacrifice style for eco-friendly skiwear and techniques,” Fry said.

For the Jiberish and Smartwool collaboration, 100% merino wool is used to create the product line. “The tie-dye items are colored using Smartwool’s plant-based eco-dyeing process, which creates a unique design for each piece while bringing nature even closer to your body,” he said. .

This collaboration includes six pieces:

Smartwool X Jiberish Beanie ($35), Merino 250 Plant-Based Dye Jiberish Jogger Bottom ($140.00), Merino 250 Colorblock Jiberish Jogger Bottom ($140.00), Merino 250 Baselayer Colorblock Jiberish Hoodie ($140.00) , Merino 250 Baselayer Plant-Based Dye Jiberish Hoodie ($140.00) and Target Calf Cushion Jiberish Print Socks ($26.00).

During this collaboration, Jiberish and Smartwool have made it a priority to stay true to Smartwool’s use of more sustainable fabrics and dyes in all products, while prioritizing Jiberish’s streetwear style.

“As two Denver-based companies steeped in ski culture, there were natural synergies between the two brands from their roots that made the partnership inevitable. During the initial conversations of this collaboration, the two brands talked a lot about the next generation of skiers in the region and how they could use the strengths of both (Smartwool’s quality materials such as merino wool and streetwear style inspired by Jiberish CO) to this group of consumers. The result is this bespoke collection! Friy said.

This Jiberish X Smartwool collection is available on Smartwool. Products are on a first come, first served basis. Future collaborations with both brands are planned throughout 2022.
